Lecturer profile:
Zhai Panmao, Chief Scientist, Second-level Researcher, and Doctoral Supervisor, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. He is the Co-Chair of IPCC Working Group I and Deputy Director of the National Climate Change Expert Committee. He used to be the chief climate diagnosis expert of the National Climate Center, the director of the Department of Forecast and Disaster Reduction of the China Meteorological Administration, the secretary-general of the Chinese Meteorological Society, and the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. He participated as lead author in preparing the IPCC Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports. As the chief scientist, he presided over the completion of the National Major R&D Program 973 Project "Research on the Formation Mechanism and Prediction Theory and Method of Persistent Major Weather Anomalies in China"; He is currently in charge of the National Key R&D Program project "Research on the Attribution Method of Major Extreme Weather and Climate Events in China". He has won a first prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, a first prize in the Jiangsu Science Progress Award, and a second prize in the Science and Technology Progress Award of the National Meteorological Administration.
