The First (2023) National Conference on Information Geography and the Inaugural Meeting of the Professional Committee of Information Geography of the Chinese Geographical Society were held on November 18-19 in Suzhou. This conference was organized by the Chinese Geographical Society and Suzhou University of Science and Technology (SUST), and co-sponsored by the Professional Committee of Information Geography of the Chinese Geographical Society, the School of Geographic Science and Surveying and Mapping Engineering of SUST, Suzhou Zhongke Tianqi Remote Sensing Science and Technology Company Limited, and the School of Geography and Marine Science of Nanjing University. With the theme of "Chinese Geography in the Era of Informationization", the conference attracted more than 1,800 experts, scholars and students from research institutes and universities across China. The conference set up a main venue, seven areas of sub-forums, more than 50 thematic venues, 10 academicians and experts to do the conference invited report, nearly 900 participants in the thematic sub-branch report.
Professor Xie Yaowen, Associate Professor Nian Yanyun, Associate Professor Wang Xiaoyan, doctoral students Wang Xiaolong and Ren Shanshan of Geographic Information Science in our institute attended the meeting, Teacher Nian Yanyun, Doctoral students Wang Xiaolong and Ren Shanshan made reports in the sub-forums, and Professor Liu Junzhi from the Pan-Third Pole Environmental Center also attended the conference and chaired the sub-forums. During the conference, teachers and students of our institute and their counterparts in information geography and its related specialties across the country had full exchanges and discussions on the key issues of the stage of information geography in China, how to improve the construction of the discipline system of information geography, promote the development of disciplines in the field of information geography, and push forward the development of China's geographic sciences in the context of the new era and informatization, and other issues.
